Tonya Leger

Tonya Legér began her formal study of biology at the University of Louisville in 1995. After years of martial arts practice and a few personal experiences, she began looking at the body-mind-spirit connection in a new way.  She attended the Louisville School of Massage in 2005-06, then the Lexington Healing Arts Academy, where she graduated in 2008. Having a background in biology, anatomy, personal training, martial arts, and massage, she has always had a desire to benefit others in a direct, holistic, and sustaining manner, as well as a desire to explore curiosities surrounding this life and this body and the many energies constantly flowing through. She has been a member of the Kentucky Sports Massage Team since 2008, receiving training and experience with sports injuries and pre/post event conditioning.  Since 2009, Tonya has further studied Craniosacral Therapy (CST) and Medical Massage Therapy in the more Western fields of study, and Medical Qigong, Hawaiian LomiLomi, and Traditional Thai massage in the more ancient/indigenous fields of study. She remains a student of Southern Shaolin and the internal arts of Baguazhang and Xingyiquan, and Taijiquan and is a Certified Medical Qigong Practitioner and Qigong Instructor by the Rising Lotus Qigong in Atlanta, Ga.

Her dedication and passion for these arts have taken her through thousands of hours of hands-on continued education from pioneers, authors, and leaders in these fields and thousands of hours of self-cultivation and practice.  This time has led to revelations in the cultivation and maintenance of her physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, as well as optimal recovery from injuries.  The manifestation of benefits continues to motivate her practice and inspire her to share the practice with others. She taught for six years at a residential drug recovery center, helping detoxify, strengthen, and increase self-awareness, works with chiropractors, physical therapists, general practitioners, and acupuncturists to enhance treatment outcomes of patients, and has her own group and private classes with students ranging from 5 to 93 years old.  Understanding that everyone is starting from their unique place with their unique needs and that we all need a different practice at different times, her Qigong spans from quiescent (more tranquil) to dynamic (more vigorous).  Her range of experience allows incorporation of every system of the body for enhanced function and general well-being. She is passionate about the processes of life and of the body how they can be influenced to obtain and maintain greater health, vitality, and longevity.
